I think your graphics card needs to be DX11 compliant, it will not work otherwise.

Not sure what the catch is, but this have been released gratis
http://www.studiogpu.com/

DirectX 11 gpu required I think.

I'd be a bit upset if I had just shelled out almost $4000US for it :]

I've been thinking about picking up project messiah for quite a while - but already owning Softimage couldn't really justify the outlay.

For this price though I decided to grab two pro licenses - one for home and one for work. More to mess about with the renderer than anything else (I mostly work on stills for print).

Adding to the free renderer list http://www.3delight.com/en/
Although you need to pay if you want use more than 2 processors.

Might be an idea to invest in some security kit. My kit is all hooked up to a steel post using these:

Also think about regular backups that can be stored where burgling bastards are unlikely to look (or even off site) - massive ext. hdds are inexpesive these days. There are a also few online solutions.

Large dogs can be handy too.

Start synchronising your contacts with an online account such as gmail :)

I remember looking at blacksmith quite few moons ago - but it seemed pretty basic back then.

There may be a larger market for it now the ZBrush has bumped up the price to $699US since the release of v4. luckily I bough it at v2 and have had free updgrades ever since.

Has anyone looked at Sculptris? It's 3d sculpting at its simplest - it's very artist friendly. You can dive straight in without needing to worry about being dazzled by a user interface.

The guy that made it has been head-hunted by Pixologic of ZBrush fame, but it's still available free in it's current form.

The download link is at the bottom of the first post here:
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=90617

Also, it doesn't need to be installed - just unpack the zip and launch it from there.

From a purely 3D painting perspective, the Foundry's Mari looks amazing. Only on Linux for now - a Windows version is due to drop soon. If only I had £600 going spare...
