I've been watching OpenAladdin4D forum (http://www.openaladdin4d.com) for a while to see if they could make the $35,000 asking price for the source (Last time I looked it was around $1,450). But for the past 3 to 4 days the site has been missing. I wonder if they gave up.

Yes it is. It didn't sell on ebay so they said they would put it up as open source if the comunity members could come up with $35,000. Donations got to around $1450.

I'm not sure I'm any the wiser about what it means.
Maybe there forum was hacked. There is a group that opposes open source software.

I don't know Portuguese, but my Spanish is pretty good. And the two are kind of close. I'll take a stab...

there's no one/nothing but a wrongful death
there's no one/nothing also that want's to help them
there's no one/nothing also who want's to face archaic nothing in order for a better world
therefore we are here. in mourning for a more certain/stable net :)

seems t be takin it pretty hard eh?.....well that's what happens when y can't "play wit da big boyz"...LOL...
far too much money tho it's probably worth it based on the time they've spent developing it.
seems to be a recurring theme tho...progs promising to go open source then disappearing....heh heh heh...do i smell a conspiracy here?.....LOL

Of course, the development cost is an issue, especially to a company, however, I doubt very much that that cost havent been covered many times over with the sales they did over the years so in fact that argument is probably moot.

In Imagines case, we also have the issue of a "personal" product, its "their" software, noot just the companys, I can understand hesitations due to that actually, I would probably also be afrais to let go of something that I've kept to myself or so long, especially if they cannot seem to find a license that protects their baby at the same time as it allows people to continue growing it.

I think Sun Microsystems made a nice move with StarOffice, it has become two products, OpenOffice and StarOffice in which Sun retains the rights to StarOffice but OpenOffice which is/was the same product at starttime as StarOffice, was allowed to spawn a completely free developing tree from that point.

Still keeping StarOffice as a Sun product mean they can fully support that while letting OpenOffice develop on its own, both gainaing from it actually
