Imagine : Impulse still not answering...
Posted by webmaster on 2005/10/14 8:23:10 (4514 reads)
Imagine

I have tried to make contact with Mike at Impulse via different email-addresses but so far no response, if anyone is living near Las Vegas it would be cool if you could verify if the company still exists and if so why they wont answer

I will look and see if I can find some fax-number or its like and try that way, if not I fear this software is loosing it totally if not even the makers of it are interested then I dont know what else I can do

Sad News, but News all the same.

I thought this site would be gone. But it's still here. I recently put imagine to rest (3 months ago)and started learning 3DS Max. It was hard to do but I did have contact with Mike about 5 or 6 years ago. They formed a new company in Vegas and work soley on slot machine game development. They are not at all interested in Imagine anymore and said the remaining code was in Minnisota (sry for spelling) with someone who might finish 3.0. I was bothering them. apparently, about honoring CUP 3.0 which they never did after paying for it.

Well, I still fire up Imagine to export my models and conver them for use in 3DS.

This is probably my first ever time posting here since I joined back in 07.

Think I'll have a look around and possibly post some renders I have and if I find a place, share some models as well.

I haven't really updated this in a while.... But i AM talking to Mike now... not often and in slow bursts of communication but we ARE talking :)

What we are talking about I don't feel free to talk about, not isn't that convenient?

Not a big deal. I loved imagine and still do, but as I posted in another thread, I kinda moved on. It still holds a special place in my heart but I have since been converting or rebuilding my models in Max.

The summer is OVER!... So ... HI! I'M BACK!...

Been a month [at lest] and come back to see THIS post about GOING to antoher PROG!!.

WOULD I DO THAT?!!?? [ah...yesMaya8Lightwave9.5... andwhoknowsHOWmanyothers...sshhh...Don't tell anyone ]

Found Imagine3D PLUS the others work VERY well together... I just like Lightwave-Maya better 'FOR CHARACTER ANIMATION' onto the background[made with Imagine3D]. Poser has it place [BVHs... more?...still looking...]

Strating to learn Maya/Lightwave; found the 'figure' rendered in Lightwave looked good [REALLY good] composited onto the Imagine3D image.

Like I say, "A tool is a tool; it's the outcome the counts."

I have been using Vue 3D and am very happy with it. Plus, the old 3DS format (90s) that Imagine writes for export loads right into Vue (no bitmaps, tho) allowing me to bypass Accutrans if need be. Vue has almost no polygon modeling tools, so it's a natural match for IFW.

Bill, i have no problem with 3ds format, except that it is limited to 64k vertices.

from: http://www.martinreddy.net/gfx/3d/3DS.spec

* 4110 - Vertex List

start end size type name
0 1 2 unsigned int Total vertices in object

The new iob format and wavefront do not have this limit

I agree, a tool is a tool. And Imagine still has its place in my tool box. Organica too every once in a while. I just wish they would have finished and released Imagine 3.0 as part of the CUP O preordered. Ah well....

Yes, I also would have liked to have seen Impluse finish Imagine3D 3 [I would have liked Imagine3D still be going too!].

BUT!!! it is what it is. Impluse was surprised to know Imagine3d could do multipass. Mike [when he was around] wrote, "I DIDN'T KNOW THAT!". Lahl and I knew that.

I use Bryce and [also] Organica now and then. Use Silo [and the freebe] wings3d for major work/import-export work [seem to like wings3d better though].

Actually, in a way, Mike is right, Imagine CAN do multipass, just not the ones we need... but it already supports multipass like techniques, i.e. motion blur and depth of field.

Motion blur is doen by combining multiple passes of the rendering while objects move and depth of field by combining different camera points... So the math is there already, just need to call it up with a bit of different settings :)

" Mike is right, Imagine CAN do multipass, just not the ones we need... " ...????
...

More than a little lost on that one. Mike didn't know multipass 'could' be done with Imagine3D. I use other 3d progs [even with Poser - THAT'S A REAL TREAT TO DO/TRY multipass with...]; I have to use the same 'technigue' in all. Ohhh... Maya and XSI 'say' they do a 'one pass' break down of 'layers'... BUT [for me] one shot is one shot of WHAT YOU WANT/need. I just don't understand your statement above.

Ok, I'll try to make myself clearer...

A multipass picture is, as you know, several renders of the same "view" with different settings and combined through filters, with an external "combiner" like photoshop or premiere to do the "filtering" you can adjust each layer and have a much greater control of the final outcome...

Imagine already renders the "view" several times when it needs to do certain effects like "motion blur" and "depth of field", the difference is that the renders are always of the complete scene and the filter is always to just mix the results up without any "per render control".

But since it is already able to call upon its renderer and combining results, I believe it would be possible to use the same functionality to do "true" multipassing, maybe not with the final control of each layer as you would have with the separate images but that might be possible to.

If nothing else, it might be possible to let it automate the multirendering automatically and produce the different sources for the external software without you all needing to set it up, thus making multipass more available to the masses.

All this of course falls to the source, which I haven't seen yet.

If its still isn't clear, well, you can blame me, I might misunderstand all of it as usual

It was as clear as mud Still, thanks for the reply.

Thought I'd upload a pix>Imagine3d/Lightwave[figure] test run.
http://www.imagine3d.org/modules/xcga ... e.php?pid=1118&fullsize=1
Just a test run on Imagine3d>Lightwave anim work.

Goes to that "WHO WOULD USE ANYTHING OTHER THAN IMAGINE3D!!!" statement.

... ho... BTW; was done in multipass [both Imagine3d/lightwave ... a little know thing untold in the Newtek list ... but LIGHTWAVE DOES DO LAYER>MULTIPASS WORK!] Still Imagine3d is easier. Composite progs: AF/PSP

Well, for importing and exporting and fixing of meshes between aps, I personally use Meshlab, it's a great utility and it is open source (free).

I built a castle in imagine and joined seperate obects together without using any boolean functions so the geometry was pretty bad (lots of hidden and overlapping faces). End result, in Max (after going through meshlab)I was able to grabe each objec seperately again. If you haven't tried meshlab, I strongly recommend it (not that it means much)

So many modeling progs [why Mike said, "Bye.".

Downloading it as I type. Like wings3d; exports .3ds and import the model into Imagine3d; parts stay separate... poser figs have to 'merge' parts BUT IT STAYS SEPARATE!!!

Some animation progs don't even have modeling creation editors... well one I know of; Eelectric Image's>EIAS>Electric Image Animation System [was the old EI Universe].

"A tool is a tool; it's the outcome of the idea that counts."

Johan!... how does one get their 'signature' to auto post when one hits the 'post commet'??
