Enterprise Test 2
I downloaded Chikans model of the Enterprise NCC-1701 and converted it with Accutrans.

Id dint handle the texture's of course, but the model looks good, scaled 1:100 in Accutrans to get a better size in Imagine.

No textures or light as of yet...

Running silent?

Kinda funny to have all those lights on an interstellar vessel anyway.

I haven't had time to retexture it yet...
You COULD register at the site I got it I presume... :)

Asked the creator Chikan (Aaron Smith) for permission to repost the Imagine version here...

I havent reduced the faces so its in the large imagine format and 428000+ polys :)

Lotsa nice stuff and good discussions there...

hmm, they are not in imagine format, how did you convert them and what imagine version are you running?

I used AccuTrans to convert :)

 Re: Enterprise Test 2
I simply thought that they where in either lightwave or 3ds format and tried to import them. I was sadly mistaken, as for accutrans, will the free trial package do this for me. Also I have 2 questions about my NCC-1701-A model
1. Can I make lines appear on the main hull section / engineering section by selecting lines in the detail editor and changing there colour
2. My windows look dull unless there is some light shinning on them, is there a way to make them look like they are lit without putting a light infront of them?
sorry to be a pain. Many thanks, Colin.

accutrans is free to try, its the full version you dowload, it can do a lot, if your not happy with it you are required to remove it after the trial period, there is no lock on it.

setting the line colors will not be visible in a render, you need a face to have a color that isnt a texture or imagemap.

if you can get at the faces that make up a winow, you can set them to a color and them make them bright, try it on a simple object, try textures and imagemaps on simpler objects to until you understand how they work.

I will make few examples after the weekend, at our summerhouse now and no compy with imagine on.

 Re: Enterprise Test 2
Well I have been busy this weekend, nobody has been able to get on the pc. I created a basic stage, just a space dock and the enterprise and with a lot of patience I created a little animaition, well a small part of a what I hope will be a much larger animation. Things I had to overcome due to my lack of knowledge was to make some passing and still shots while manipulating all the lights I have in it. So using the stage editor I was able to cut and paste the actors for each light to make them flash on and off.
I wanted to have the ship move slowly across the screen in various poses but didn't know how to make all the lights follow so my solution was to create a path and assign the camera to it then duplicate the same path and assign the space dock to that one and hey presto the camera and space dock move while the ship and all it's lights remain stationary. The end result is the ship appears to move :) next to add the AVI files to windows movie maker and add some music and, for me at least the end result was very rewarding. When I have made something a little more polished I will try and provide atleast a link to show you guys the results. Don't go expecting anything special though, remember I am making this up as I go along.
P.S. I just published the short clip to my pc and it's 9.12Mb... not too sure how to get it to you guys so i will need to think on that one.
P.S. again, lol I am able to upload to youtube but I am now waiting for the video to clear, so it won't be too long. This link should work shortly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeExu3WQd30

 Re: Enterprise Test 2
Well after two weeks or so I have managed to knock this thing together. I know it's not perfect but I am still trying to learn all this stuff and I am not very experienced using this software so please be gentle with your critisisms. I am fairly happy with it but wish I could do better. I hope you like it. Sorry for the bad storyboarding but I will try and come up with a better animation soon.

Cool...
I get small freezes in the animation, but that's probably my old PC having problems... my Mac is in the shop so I cant look there at the moment :/

Hi, Colin,

Long time, no see!

Nice animation- the only thing that I would say that you need to change is the navigational lights- they illuminate too much. I don't know how you've set them up- Ranged, 1/r or 1/r squared- but they shouldn't really illuminate to far around them.

Other than that, you've done really, really well, putting together a complex animation.

Great to see you persevering with Imagine.

(Me I'm currently playing around with Bryce 7.0 Pro....)

All the Best,

Kevin.
