Accurate ALIENS APC
My latest attempt at the ALIENS APC based on the Hunslet ATT77 aircraft tow tractor and some hard found photos and helpful modelling sites online. I found an amazing one, yes one, photo of the Hunslet ATT77 after weeks of internet surfing, but I did find a cutaway drawing!
Basically the Halcyon model I based my original on was too long and too shallow, but looks great anyway.
It looks like I will have to almost completely guess the underside of the vehicle, as the cutaway is short on the transmission system detail and the hydraulic steering. The actual vehicle had three steering modes; two wheel, four wheel and crab, though more ‘slantways’ than sideways! With a maximum speed of 20mph (32kph), in both directions, a fully ballasted, (lead and sand) weight of 70,000kg (155,000lb) and a ground clearance of 7 inches (178mm); it’s an odd choice to base a futuristic APC on!
But I am glad they did!
Imagine seeing that coming up to tow your 747!
