DST and DSG
A fanciful rendering of the DST and the DSG docked together. In reality these craft would be located in lunar space rather than in Earth orbit, but I thought they looked pretty cool against the clouds

 Re: Professional Planet State-Object for Imagine 2.13+
I finally got a chance to try this out - looks great and renders very quickly!

The only issue I found is if I want to have a lightsource on one side, there's no shadows on the planet. I don't get a crescent, or shading on non-lit side of the planet. Any suggestions on how I can make that work, Marabufx?

Otherwise, it's really cool for making quick planets and the states work well.

@fragomato

Hello Perry,
that with the Shadow is because I built the Planets with Brightness and Ambient Brushes. Especially because of the Self-Iuminous Effect of the Ambient Brushes, the Object can not create Shadows. That's in the Nature of Things.

Actually, glowing Lava Planets in Nature do not produce any Shade. That's why I did not Focus on it. But for every Problem, there is a solution .. and I'll see what I can do.

Remedy here can only create a Fake Shadow, which is created with a black volumetric Sphere or a Fakely Texture or an Alpha Texture. Visually, this does not differ from a real raytraced Shadow at all.

The Fake Shadow is then simply focused on the Light Source ... and that's it Because the Light Source always stays in the same place, so you do not have to worry about anything great.

I'll try that out and then give you my Result.

Ps.
Your Object Scenes are once again unique. I admire the Level of detail you use to Model your Objects. Just perfect and Hollywood Quality.

Greeting Karsten

@fragomatik

Hello Perry,
I solved the problem in an elegant way. ;)) Look at the test render images. There is absolutely no difference to a raytracing shadow.

Just use my shadow object, which I have uploaded here for you.

fake_shadow.iob

I've already adjusted it to the coordinates, so you can work with it right away.

Greeting Karsten

You sir, are a legend! I've played around with it and it works beautifully.

Thank you so much, Karsten!

I love how easy it is to create an almost infinite variety of planets just by morphing between the states.

Morphing between hot venus and water world gives a nice subtle hint of continents below the clouds.

well, the State "Tween To" method can indeed be used to morph between the individual planets. I had completely forgotten that.
