Fly to da 3D moon
unsatisfied with the heigtmap displacement bumb mapping and endless rendertimes I start wondering why not greate a real 3D moon object with available NASA DEM data and just wrap an moon image on it..? Well somebody has already pulled the huge NASA DEM data set through the commandline application to convert it into a wavefront .iob
I got my hands on that object and reduced it with meshlab and saved the .iob in accutrans without losing too much of its surface details. Then I got lost in space with finding the right lightning.
Still not satified but a nice render of miss Luna.
More renderings from that object https://cgintervisuals.wordpress.com
